The Asus ROG Phone ll Finally Nailed the Gaming Experience

ROG Phone 5 Pro Review: The Asus ROG Phone 5 Finally Nailed Gaming

The ROG Phone 5 by Asus is probably the fastest phone right now. It has an ultra-smooth display, a high-definition camera, an excellent build, and an unbeatable battery life. I don’t think that there is another phone on the market now that could beat the value of this gaming phone now.

In terms of design, the screen starts out with a walloping 144 Hz and packs a 1ms responsive delay design, making it one of the best screens on the market. It has a metal and glass build with an RGB rear LED. In addition, the fingerprint scanner is in-display. Finally, the USB-C headphone port is perfect for gamers.

Moreover, the ROG Phone 5 carries an unapologetically gaming powerhouse aesthetic. On the outside, it has colored accents, sharp angles, RGB lighting. All of these things come together in order to make up a busy design.

The device is built solidly and the buttons mounted on the right side of the device feel crisp and tactile. In addition, the USB-C and 3.5mm ports are placed well on the bottom. Lastly, the rear camera at the top back has a unique shape.

ROG Phone 5 Pro Review: Ultimate vs. Pro

Asus included “Air Triggers” on the right side of the ROG Phone Ultimate vs ROG Phone Pro. For this reason, you will be able to use the capacitive shoulder buttons in games when you are holding the phone in landscape. The AIr Trigger buttons work very well because they blend into the design of the phone. In fact, you will completely forget about them until the time that you already need to use them.

On the other hand, the left side of the phone houses the dual USB-C ports that are used for docking the phone to a number of ROG accessories.

But of course, just like any other gaming phone that you will find out there, there are some drawbacks. You can easily lose the rubber dust-cap and there is no official Ingress Protection. The latter is a pain for users who are living in areas that have less than perfect weather.

Though it is not the fastest ever, the in-display fingerprint scanner is accurate. In addition, the dual SIM tray has the “GLHF” acronym printed on its inside. What is even more compelling is that the Asus ROG Phone 5 Pro and Ultimate is one of the few remaining phones that has a discreet notification LED.

A Deeper Look into the Asus ROG Phone ll’s Display

This time, Asus nailed it when it comes to the display. The ROG Phone 5 is basically a mixture of speed, quality, and optimization. In addition, the 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display panel has been created with gamers in mind. The speed and fluidity are spot-on due to the 144Hz refresh rate. There are also deep blacks as well as a high contrast ratio due to the OLED tech.

There are punch holes and notches in most of the phones on the market these days. However, the Asus ROG Phone 5 has an uninterrupted screen that has tightly rounded corners. While it does not look sleek and modern at first glance, these features mean you are free of any distractions during games. The UI elements are less likely to be cut off by these rounded corners as well.

Still, the screen is not perfect. There are a couple of notable issues in terms of the AMOLED screen of the ROG Phone 5 Pro. First, the screen does not get dim enough, so the light is a little blinding when checking for notifications in the middle of the dark. In addition, since the screen is quite large, there is a notable drop in sharpness in comparison to the similarly-sized QHD devices.

Performance

The Asus ROG Phone 5 has the best spec sheet right now. It does not disappoint when it comes to user experience, thanks to the Snapdragon 888 Plus SoC that pushes far more power to the GPU. This makes it the best gaming phone for pure gaming performance.

When playing games such as Riptide Renegade and Minecraft, which all need a 144Hz refresh rate, the smoothness of the ROG Phone 5 was almost surreal. This is made possible with the help of a Full HD+ display. Through this, the phone’s CPU is able to push more frames. This way, it does not have to deliver such a high resolution.

Still, it is not just gaming when it comes to the ROG Phone 5. The super-fast display and high number of RAM make everything about the phone excellently fast. From switching from one app to another to processing videos and images, the device will never lag.

Battery

Most gaming phones right now have a 5000mAh battery life. But the ROG Phone 5 chose to skip that. Instead, it features a behemoth 6000mAh cell. This enables multiple days of battery life that a lot of gamers crave when they are in place with no power outlet for more than 24 hours.

Moreover, this device has a Quick Charge 5.0 and 65W of charging power. With the large battery life, you would expect that it would take ages to charge. However, it still tops up better than most phones out there.

One of the best features of the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate is it offers a power share. This feature allows you to plug another device into your ROG Phone 5 and charge the connected device at 10W of power. With the huge 6000mAh of power, having the capability to share it with others is absolutely incredible.

Final Thoughts

There is no denying that the Asus ROG Phone 5 Pro and Ultimate is the best gaming phone among the ones on the market right now. With all the features and specs that the phone is packed with, you will surely be able to bring your every game to an entirely new level. On top of that, the battery life that lasts for more than 24 hours will bring no interruption during gaming.
